For the third year in a row, we came together to celebrate World Elephant Day with our beloved Trails for Trunks event. This year, we saw an even greater outpouring of support as elephant lovers worldwide united to walk, run, cycle, swim and get active in honour of elephants and their conservation.

World Elephant Day, observed every year on 12 August, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about the critical challenges elephants face. It’s a day to recognise the importance of these incredible animals, who play a crucial role in their ecosystems, and to highlight the efforts to protect them from threats like poaching, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.

Our 2024 Trails for Trunks took place over the weekend of 9-11 August, allowing participants from all around the globe to join in at any time and from any location. We also held our second in-person Trails for Trunks event in Pretoria at the Big Red Barn, bringing the community of local elephant lovers together in a unique way.

The HERD and Jabulani Team

Our dedicated team of carers begins their day early, walking several kilometres with the elephants each morning. Their routine goes beyond simply guiding the herd; it’s about ensuring the well-being and happiness of every elephant in their care. The carers’ involvement in Trails for Trunks is deeply meaningful, as they share their love for the Jabulani herd with supporters worldwide in honour of World Elephant Day. Their dedication is a vital part of what makes this event so special, bringing the elephants’ story to life for everyone involved.

The Jabulani rangers also got active for Trails for Trunks, spending time with guests and sharing the story of the Jabulani herd throughout World Elephant Day Weekend.

Reclaimed Earth and Izindlovu

We’d like to extend our gratitude to Reclaimed Earth and Izindlovu Fund for their efforts in encouraging community involvement in this year’s Trails for Trunks. Your support is always appreciated as we continue to raise awareness for elephant conservation.

Our Followers from around the globe

From the scenic beaches of Croatia to the forests of Canada and the trails of Pretoria, supporters from around the globe once again showed their love for elephants during Trails for Trunks 2024. Whether hiking, cycling, swimming, riding, rowing or even vacuuming the house, each activity was a step towards raising awareness for elephants.
