On Saturday, 17 August 2024, the Big Red Barn in Pretoria, South Africa was buzzing with excitement as HERD and AdventureTails hosted the second annual Trails for Trunks event in celebration of World Elephant Day weekend. Supporters gathered bright and early, and after registration, they began warming up and getting ready for the trail routes. Whether they were running, cycling or walking, everyone was filled with enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.
The cyclists were the first to hit the trails, eagerly lining up at the start and cheering as they sped down the dirt road. After a quick warm-up session led by Planet Fitness, the runners took off. The more competitive runners quickly disappeared into the thick bush, racing ahead, while others took their time, enjoying the tranquil escape that the scenic trails provided from busy city life.
As the runners and cyclists reached the final stretch and crossed the finish line, cheers filled the air, with bright smiles all around. The energy was contagious, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Each participant proudly received a Trails for Trunks medal as a token of their support.
The morning ended with a prize-giving ceremony as we celebrated the winners and awarded prizes for the best-dressed participants. A duo with an adorable puppy participant stole the show, winning the best-dressed award. But the true highlight of the day was seeing the community come together to support the Jabulani herd. The heartfelt dedication of the participants, from their creative outfits to the inspiring stories they shared about their love for the herd, truly warmed our hearts and meant the world to us.
