This is one of the many reasons why we rely on funding to cover these costs: Our elephants consume roughly 16 bales of lucerne a day. Lucerne provides an alternative source of food, especially during the dry season or possible droughts for the elephants as well as some of the other wildlife on the reserve. Lucerne is a high quality green feed and is high in energy and protein and highly digestible.
