CHOOSE AN ELEPHANT YOU WOULD LIKE TO FOSTER

Because of their high intelligence and complexity, elephants needs are diverse and nuanced and require a special kind of management, one with heart, soul and respect as well as milk and medicine at times too. When a rescued orphan comes into the orphanage, it is traumatised and in many cases dehydrated, sunburnt and possibly injured, making their needs even more critical and demanding.

Funding goes toward meeting these needs, which include our essential and sizable team of dedicated elephant carers. Orphanage carers provide round the clock care to ensure that the little ones are never left alone, as well as to the baby elephant’s milk formulation, which is exceptionally delicate and requires extra nutritional supplements as the animal grows, as their mother’s milk would change naturally through the weaning stages and evolving needs

You can help us to provide vital shelter, support and sustenance by fostering an elephant for yourself or fostering an elephant as a gift for a loved one, giving them the joy of supporting an elephant and the world of elephant conservation.

Our Foster memberships show clearly what each membership fees will be used for, helping you choose the membership that best suits your ideals in fostering an elephant that touches your heart the most.

Tokwe, the Matriarch, is a strong and remarkable leader, with an authoritative presence that guides and settles the herd, with her protective, decisive, nurturing, kind and accepting, but still disciplined nature

Foster Tokwe

Jabulani is such an inspirational survivor, a friendly, playful and confident elephant who has won the hearts of many through his 24-year journey since being rescued as a calf.

Foster Jabulani

Born in 1987, Somopane is one of the male bulls that were rescued from Zimbabwe. He is the most intelligent of the herd and an exceptional mediator. He loves time on his own, away from the herd, preferring the quiet and calm of the bush, his happy place. His sense of smell is phenomenal.

Foster Somopane

Sebakwe is the herd’s dominant bull, a true gentle giant, tender, caring and protective, a big dam frolicker, and also stately and by far the biggest, tallest and widest elephant in the herd.

Foster Sebakwe

Precious Lundi, mother to Mambo, with her kind motherly touch, calm nature, has been an exceptional adoptive mother to Khanyisa and provides her with ongoing guiding support and protection.

Foster Lundi

Setombe is the oldest of all the elephants, and mother to Klaserie, quiet, gentle and sensitive and a curious elephant who likes to be protected by the herd

Foster Setombe

Mother to Zindoga, Bubi has been a very attentive and caring allomother to Khanyisa and is a gentle and reliable elephant, with a caring heart and motherly nature and a big love for swimming.

Foster Bubi

Fishan is an intelligent, independent and protective elephant, a beautiful presence in the herd as well as a great hero to us all as he healed from a leg fracture in 2018 and persevered against the odds to now be back splashing in the mud and dam with his herd.

Foster Fishan

Mambo is Lundi’s son and is an energetic and mischievous yet loving young elephant bull.  He is increasingly independent as he grows up, often challenging the older bulls.

Foster Mambo

Limpopo is the daughter of the herd’s Matriarch, Tokwe, a protective, beautiful and intelligent elephant, and much like her mom, she’s always so protective and caring towards the younger elephants like Khanyisa.

Foster Limpopo

Klaserie has become a beautiful allomother to Khanyisa and is a very relaxed and easy-going (food-loving) young female, who shares a very special bond with her mother, Setombe.

Foster Klaserie

Pisa, the second daughter to Tokwe, the Matriarch, has great self-confidence and leadership skills like her mother. She is strong and tends to think she’s an adult, but she still loves to play and have fun with the little ones, Kumbura and Timisa.

Foster Pisa

Handsome young Zindoga loves a rumble with his friend, Mambo, as a growing bull himself. He’s quite competitive and is becoming a naturally more dominant young male which has earned him respect from the other elephants!

Foster Zindoga

1Kumbura was lovingly accepted into the Jabulani herd in 2009 and despite her unfortunate start in life as an orphan, she has blossomed under the care of her new herd and become a strong, protective and caring elephant, especially over the other orphans.

Foster Kumbura

Orphaned elephant Timisa, meaning “Courageous”, was accepted gracefully into the Jabulani Herd in 2016. A sweet, playful and energetic young elephant now, she has settled in beautifully with the herd and a great big sister to Khanyis.

Foster Timisa

Khanyisa is an orphaned albino elephant who survived a horrific snaring incident. She inspired the world with her will to live and courageous spirit and now, fully rehabilitated, she is spending her time with her new family, the Jabulani herd
