Today we say farewell to a cherished team member, elephant carer, friend, and father, Kenneth Shambira.

Born in Zimbabwe, Kenneth was part of our family, helping to look after the elephants at HERD since 2009. When he started in our team, he had no experience with elephants. Our team took him under their wing as a learner and taught him everything they knew about elephants. He was a natural and adapted exceptionally well in a short period, quickly becoming one of our treasured senior elephant carers.

A very sad day fell over us all earlier this year as Kenneth’s heart stopped in the bush, while he was out walking with the carers and elephants. In this video, our team sends their deep condolences to Kenneth’s family and community and shares our deepest thanks and love for this HERD hero.
