Calling all cyclists, runners and swimmers! Did you know that you can make a difference while you exercise? Race for HERD by starting your own fundraiser for HERD Trust and the elephants in our care, making a difference when you tackle that next challenge or race!
The biggest annual celebration of cycling in South Africa.
We have 16 brave cyclists representing the 16 elephants in the Jabulani elephant herd in the 947 Ride Joburg this year! Help our HERD champions raise R9,050 to feed, care and look after their chosen elephant for 1 month!
Funds will be used for:
Lucerne = R2,500
Wildspille = R1,500
Medication = R300
Teff = R100
Cleaning supplies = R100
Bana grass = R650
Vet bills = R400
Water and electricity = R3,500
The Trails for Trunks event invites you to run or cycle on 12 August 2023, on World Elephant Day, at The Big Red Barn, Pretoria. Put on those trail running shoes and bring bundles of enthusiasm to raise “aweh”ness for HERD and elephants.
Registration opens at 7am. Starting time: 8am. There are three run/walk distances available: 5km, 10km, 21km. There are two cycle distances available: 10km, 20km.
There will be plenty to enjoy on the day in the name of elephant conservation and family fun, including stalls, food, merchandise goodies, raffles, prizes, music and more.
HERD Trust relies on public funding to cover the operational costs to care for and support elephant orphans and the rescued herd. All profits from the event go to HERD Trust.

Get active and make a difference for elephants! Whether you run, cycle, walk, swim, skate, dance, or support from the sidelines, you can help raise awareness for elephants and their conservation this World Elephant Day.
Join us from anywhere in the world over the weekend of World Elephant Day, from 11 to 13 August 2023. Anyone can participate at any time over the weekend. Participation is free! Snap a photo or video of yourself doing your bit and share it on social media, tagging HERD and using the hashtags #trailsfortrunks and #worldelephantday.
Adopt an elephant during June, July or August (ending 12 August) to enter the prize draw and stand a chance to win a personal Supervirtual Experience with Adine, Tigere, and the elephants!
