On Saturday, 16 August 2025, the Big Red Barn in Pretoria came alive as HERD and AdventureTails hosted the third annual Trails for Trunks in honour of World Elephant Day. The atmosphere was buzzing with even more excitement than ever before, as families, friends and supporters of all ages gathered to take part in this special day.
After registration, participants warmed up and prepared for the trail routes. Cyclists kicked off the morning, lining up at the start and powering down the dirt road. After the cyclists, it was the runners’ turn, and the atmosphere was electric as they headed off along the scenic paths. While some pushed their limits in a competitive spirit, others soaked up the beauty of the bush, enjoying a peaceful escape from the rush of city life.
The finish line was filled with cheers and celebration as runners and cyclists of every pace came through, greeted with applause and smiles. Each participant proudly received a medal and a goodie bag, a token of appreciation for their incredible support. This year welcomed participants both young and old, with the youngest competitor being just four weeks old, showing that Trails for Trunks truly is for everyone.
The morning wrapped up with a prize-giving ceremony, where we celebrated winners across categories, including best-dressed. Once again, the creativity and enthusiasm of our supporters shone brightly, making for some unforgettable moments. But the greatest highlight of all was the unity of the community, coming together to stand by the Jabulani herd and HERD’s work.
The Virtual Trails for Trunks
For those who could not join in person, the Virtual Trails for Trunks offered a chance to take part from anywhere in the world. Participants ran, swam, danced and hiked their favourite routes, proudly sharing their efforts online in support of HERD. This global extension of the event truly showed how far the love for the herd reaches, uniting supporters across countries and time zones.
Congratulations to Ozy and Muriel, who won our lucky draw and walked away with a $100 gift voucher for our online shop!

This year’s Trails for Trunks was once again filled with laughter, smiles and plenty of wagging tails. Children and pups added to the joy of the morning, creating an environment full of energy and fun for everyone.
