Some campaigns raise funds.
Others raise voices.
The 1000 Echoes for Elephants campaign was born from HERD’s commitment to listening more closely to elephants, to truly hear what they are telling us through their behaviour, social bonds, and responses to a changing world.
From the very first Echo on 5 March 2026, supporters from around the world stepped forward to dedicate their Echo in memory, in honour, or in quiet gratitude for elephants, carers, and the lives that have touched their own.
What stands out most in the Echo report is not simply participation, but intention.
Supporters dedicated their Echoes:
These Echoes have come from across continents, each carrying a deeply personal story.
Some supporters gave a single Echo.
Others offered multiple Echoes, amplifying their message and extending their impact.
As of the end of March 2026, the campaign has already reached:
It is a meaningful beginning. But there is still a long way to go.

To help ensure we never face another tragedy like the Limpopo incident, HERD is establishing the (in memory of) Limpopo Research Centre, a dedicated space for research into elephant health, emotional wellbeing, and stress.
Guided by leading experts, this work aims to identify early warning signs so that carers can intervene sooner and better protect both elephants and humans.
In a world where human-elephant conflict is intensifying, this knowledge is no longer optional.
It is essential.
To bring this vision to life, HERD launched the 1000 Echoes for Elephants campaign to raise USD 250,000 (approximately R4 million) for the laboratory.
Each Echo:
Together, these Echoes form a powerful visual reminder that every voice matters, and that collective action can create lasting change.
To everyone who has already added their Echo, thank you.
Your Echo joins many others in carrying forward a message that will continue to resonate long after this moment.
And if you have not yet added your Echo, there is still space in the circle.
